About Me

I am a mom, wife, therapist, backyard farmer, LGBT community member, Appalachian, college counseling center director, amateur genealogist, musician, amateur photographer, & foster parent. Though I lived until my late 20's in West Virginia, I now live with my wife and our two adopted sons in Toledo, OH - where we've lived for about ten years.

Our sons came to live with us first as foster children in March, 2012. We officially adopted them in December, 2012.

I feel very strongly that we must all work to think about what we value and make sure that we're living consistently with those values - something that I'm not sure many people give much thought to. I also recognize and believe that the majority of people walk around feeling that they're never enough and struggle with their own feelings of self-worth, which should not be the case. I think that you'll find that regardless of the topic of my posts, these two themes will be touched on regularly.

I hope you enjoy my thoughts and I welcome your comments and feedback.

Can't Wait for Monday - The Chicks are Coming!!!

We're getting so excited at my house and can hardly wait for Monday when we go pick up our new chicks.  I started sprouting the grain today that we're going to need to start feeding them.  I also contacted the hatchery where we're getting our birds and am taking advantage of a great opportunity to give back to the community.

Meyer Hatchery (http://www.meyerhatchery.com/) in Polk, OH offers what they call a Meyer Meal Maker to anyone to orders birds from them.  It's a free chick that they will give you with every order as long as you agree to give the eggs or meat produced to a local family or charity.  We value giving back to our community and were already planning to give away eggs that we couldn't use.  Even though we'll only be getting a few eggs a week, this seemed like a great opportunity to make sure we have eggs to give to others on a more regular basis.  I can't wait to see what kind of chicken we get.

I posted what our birds will look like as adults in my first post earlier this week but I thought I would put in some pictures of what the'll look like on Monday when I pick them up.  They are so cute and I think different enough that we'll be able to tell them apart.
